A CONTEMPORARY COUNTRY GARDEN WITH AN OUTDOOR KITCHEN
This garden enjoys stunning views across open countryside.

My clients wanted to enjoy walking to a new outdoor kitchen in an atmosphere of calmness.
See how the garden unwinds with axial views and vistas, a restricted palette of materials, forms and colours.

An Outdoor Kitchen, Putting green, Gas-lit firepit and a stone fireplace.
An elegant transformation of a blank canvas garden.
Designed for family gatherings and entertaining with friends, this contemporary garden makes the most of its setting and spectacular views across the open countryside.

At the top of the garden, where the sun can be enjoyed until it sets, the outdoor kitchen was perfectly positioned — giving the space both function and a strong visual focus.

“It gives the garden function and is beautiful to look at,” said the client.

From a blank canvas, the garden is now defined by understated elegance, with a restricted palette of materials creating a calm and serene atmosphere throughout.

A functional and elegant focal point.

The charm of the outdoor kitchen lies in its elegance and simplicity. Warm cedar boarding creates a welcoming, intimate atmosphere, while sleek black units provide striking contrast, making the kitchen a beautiful centrepiece for gatherings.

Limestone flagstones, continued from the surrounding patios, create a seamless connection between the kitchen and the garden, keeping the space uncluttered and harmonious.

A clean and easy way to have a fire pit in the garden.

This gas-fed fire pit brings warmth and ambience to the garden in a clean, effortless way. All pipework is discreetly concealed below ground, with easy access to the gas cylinder when needed.
Powder-coated for durability, the fire pit will not rust in wet weather, and a fitted cover ensures it remains tidy and visually unobtrusive when not in use.

3d visulisation

Design visualisation

This 3D image illustrates the garden at the concept stage, showing how the layout, materials, and planting were carefully considered. The positioning of the outdoor kitchen, terraces, and circulation routes responds to the site’s levels and long views across the Hampshire countryside, creating a garden that is both functional and visually serene.
Using a restricted palette of materials and clean architectural lines, the image captures the elegance and calm that guided the design from concept to completion.

Underplanting with grasses
Amelanchier underplanting:
Drifts of tactile grasses will grace the base of our multi-stemmed Amelanchier trees, creating a delicate, airy understorey. The movement and texture of the grasses adds a romantic, layered quality, enhancing the garden’s sense of calm and intimacy.

By planting in repeated forms and clusters, we create a sense of rhythm that keeps the garden tranquil and elegant.

This approach complements the open countryside beyond, reinforcing a seamless connection between the garden and its surroundings.
How we got there
We started landscaping in mid October and aimed to be finished by Christmas. We worked through biblical rain and beautiful sunny days and throughout the process we remained on track and positive! Armed with copious amounts of tea and biscuits generously supplied by our lovely clients, we finished the landscaping and structure planting in time for Christmas.

Before we started

Looking back towards the house, this image is taken where the outdoor kitchen will be built
Laying the water pipe to the outdoor kitchen in a very deep trench!
The outdoor kitchen is now built and the artificial lawn is being laid.
