Colourful Front Garden

Designing and creating a front garden that is colourful and draught tolerant.

Our client wanted a garden that was going to withstand long periods with no rain and that was a bit different.

They inherited a bit of front garden with a mound of earth that was at least 1m-1.5m high and full of weeds and brambles and with an enormous conifer that was dead!

A mound of grass and gravel next to a brick wall. The plants surrounding the mound are straggly and unkempt.

Our idea was to flatten and remove the mound to make it easier and more pleasant to garden - it also had the effect of improving the relationship between the garden and the driveway.

We put an oak sleeper wall in to hold the earth back and support the boundary hedge. We also planted shade loving evergreens agains the garage wall with a climbing Hydrangea Petiolaris.

A gravel path fills a space next to a garage. Fresh dark compost fills the square open space of the path with an oak sleeper wall retaining a raised flower bed.
A light gravel path runs vertically through the centre of the picture. Either side of the path are tall grasses and purple coloured wild flowers.

We designed in a new path around the garden, planted a new tree and then filled the space with grasses, dahlias, Agastache and echinaceas. It hums and sings with busy pollinators and is a real show stopper.
